Bill Vickrey, Administrative Director of the Courts, had been planning to retire last year but agreed to serve a bit longer for the sake of stability and continuity as stewardship over the California courts passed from Chief Justice Ronald M. George to Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye. As noted in this press release, having stayed on for that transition, Vickrey has now formally submitted his resignation to the Chief Justice, bringing to a close 19 years of dedicated service. While in the post, Vickrey oversaw the work of the increasingly influential Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC), the Judicial Council’s staff agency.
Vickrey’s resignation will be effective on September 9, 2011, when the current legislative session comes to an end, and before new Judicial Council members’ terms begin on September 15.
