Biotech billionaire offers to help implement troubled Court Case Management System

When we last discussed California’s troubled Court Case Management System, or CCMS, implementation of the over-budget project had been put on hold due to the steep cuts the Legislature has imposed on the judicial branch’s budget. But since then, as discussed here, biotech billionaire Patrick Soon-Shiong has offered to provide $20 million to fund the implementation of the system next year in San Luis Obispo, Ventura and Fresno. He has also offered to assist the judicial branch with locating other funding sources to pay for CCMS’s implementation in the rest of the state’s courts. As reflected in this article in the California Bar Journal, the Administrative Office of the Courts, the State Bar and the Patrick Soon-Shiong Family Foundation have executed a letter of intent to begin a 12-week discussion to determine if the parties will enter into a collaborative relationship. We should know by January whether Soon-Shiong will, in fact, assist the courts in the implementation of CCMS.
