Cert denied in California Supreme Court cell-phone-search case

As noted, the California Supreme Court ruled nine months ago that police can search an arrestee’s cell phone text messages without a warrant, the defendant asked the United States Supreme Court to hear the case, and, with the defendant’s certiorari petition still pending, the California Legislature passed a bill to overturn the California Supreme Court’s decision. Well, now the decision’s efficacy all depends on whether the governor signs the bill, because the United States Supreme Court today denied the cert petition.
