Going up! Supreme Court filing fees, that is

It now costs more to file documents in the Supreme Court. On Wednesday, the Legislature passed and the Governor signed SB 1021, which is effective immediately. Among many other things, the legislation raises various court fees, including for Supreme Court and Court of Appeal filings (see sections 24 and 25 of the bill).

The newly enacted increases, plus the unchanged additional fee imposed by Government Code section 68926.1, subdivision (b), make the filing costs as follows: Supreme Court petitions for review and writ petitions — $710 (up from $590); first document filed by a party other than the petitioner — $390 (up from $325). Notices of appeal and Court of Appeal writ petitions now cost $775 to file (up from $655).
