PBS to air documentary about former California Supreme Court Justice Cruz Reynoso

Tonight at 9 pm, KOCE, the Southern California PBS-affiliate, will be airing filmmaker Abby Ginzberg’s documentary about former Supreme Court Justice Cruz Reynoso, entitled “Cruz Reynoso: Sowing the Seeds of Justice.” According to this Orange County Register article, the film covers Justice Reynoso’s early life as one of 11 children in a family of migrant farmworkers, “his service as the first Latino director of California Rural Legal Assistance, and his battles with then-Gov. Ronald Reagan; his appointment as the first Latino to the state Supreme Court and later rejection by voters with then-Chief Justice Rose Bird and fellow Justice Joseph Grodin; and his service as vice-chairman of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, which probed voting rights abuses in Florida in the 2000 presidential election.”

Justice Reynoso was my professional responsibility professor at UCLA School of Law. I found him to be not only a dedicated and patient teacher but a kind and unassuming man. I’m definitely planning to set my DVR. (Check the OC Register article for additional air times.)
