The Supreme Court today signed off on two more clemency requests submitted by Governor Gavin Newsom. The court’s approvals are constitutionally required because the two clemency candidates have been convicted of multiple felonies.
Today’s action clears the way for Newsom to pardon Tri Thai and Shannon Thomas-Bland.
During Newsom’s term, the court has now approved nine of his clemency recommendation requests (seven pardons and two sentence commutations) and, unlike with Governor Jerry Brown, has rejected none. Four more requests remain pending.
