They can be intimidating to those on the other side of the bench, too

Speaking with a group of high school students, Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye admitted that, when she started at the Supreme Court, it was “a little bit intimidating” for her to be working with the other justices, who were all senior in experience and whom she described as “iconic figures.” Those of us who have stood at the lectern in front of the justices can understand the feeling.

Answering other student questions, the Chief Justice said that Abigail Adams would be her choice for an historical figure to have dinner with and that being a high school teacher would be what she would want to be doing if she were not in a legal career.
