On Monday morning, the Supreme Court will file its opinion in People v. Powell (Carl Devon), an automatic direct appeal from a November 1994 judgment of death.  (Briefs here; oral argument video here.)  Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye is recused; Third District Court of Appeal Justice Harry Hull, Jr., and Fourth District, Division One, Justice Richard Huffman are the pro tems.

After Monday, there will likely be a drought of opinion filings for at least a month or two.  Besides Powell, the only undecided argued cases are the five September calendar matters in which, under the 90-day rule, the court need not file opinions until the beginning of December.

The Powell opinion can be viewed Monday starting at 10:00 a.m.
